Would Ember and Luna Like Eastern NC? Yes!
What’s better than exploring the lovely and lively Eastern North Carolina? Inviting your furry friend to come along and share the adventure with you! The good news is, North Carolinians are dog lovers, and the list of Fido-friendly places is Dachshund-long. It includes shops, parks, trailways, groomers, and the most beautiful beaches.

Topsail Island boasts almost twenty-six miles of comely coastline, and it is all dog friendly! As long as your pooch is on a leash, you can allow them to dip their paws into the salty warm waters while you soak up the sun. There, they can meet new pals, bird watch, or lounge in the shade of an umbrella. Take them with you on your early morning run while the sun rises or walk along the cool surf as the waves calm and the day ends.
The beach isn’t the only dog-friendly place around. Walking paths thread the area, and most are dog-friendly. Jacksonville is home to over seventeen miles of trails which include the Oakhurst Nature Trail, the Riverwalk Crossing, and more. Visit the Cedar Point Tideland Trail, a one-point-four mile loop with trees and breeze or walk the many trails and woods of Newport, Stella, or Richlands. If your goal is to relax surrounded by fresh air, you’re in luck. Eastern NC has many parks to sit and de-stress with your favorite four-legged friend.

Pooch-friendly parks are a wonderful way to socialize your best bud with other pups. Swansboro has a half-acre off-leash dog park where your dog can befriend other canines and run far and fast. Prior registration is required to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all dog owners. The park neighbors the Swansboro Municipal Park which welcomes dogs, too. Also in Swansboro is the dog-friendly Hammocks Beach State Park where you can picnic under the old shade trees while the breeze from the water wafts around. Although the beaches, trails, and parks are aplenty, you don’t have to be outside to enjoy the area with your puppy pal.
Do you have a boujee barker? You’re in luck! Eastern NC is home to many groomers who can get them ready for a night on the town. Animal House in Jacksonville is a fantastic option to pamper your pet. They offer boarding and doggie daycare as well! You will also find multiple mom-and-pop pet shops, large pet supply stores, and some of the best veterinarians around.
We all love our canine BFFs and want the best for them. This includes having them with us as much as we can and not leaving them in a crate while we enjoy our weekend adventures. Whether you want to be with your pup as much as possible, need supplies for them, medical care, or training and boarding, this part of the Crystal Coast is the place to be for both you and your beloved buddy.
